“ At the stroke of the midnight hour of August 15 ,1947, when the world slept, India awoke to life and freedom.” The Nation liberated itself from the shackles of British bondage paying a huge price of human lives.
To commemorate this reality of our Motherland St Cecily’s High School celebrated the 77th Independence Day in various ways. A patriotic group singing competition was held on 12th August 2023. The school hall reverberated the feelings of patriotic excitement in participants and all students witnessing the competition.
On 14th August an entertainment programme was presented by Students of class X C with the P.E.T. of the school- Mr Edwin Mendonsa as the chief guest. A solemn prayer beseeched God’s blessing on the country and countrymen. Then followed a volley of patriotic dances, songs and skits through which students brought a glimpses of the freedom struggle to life.
Mr Edwin, in his message urged students to revere our Motherland and hold the National flag in high regard. He made the students aware that the generation of our elders who lived through the British rule and experienced the taste of Liberty first hand cherished the celebration of Independence in the true sense. But we too ought to respect and show gratitude to the freedom fighters who gave us this Independent India to be born in and strive our best to be united and live in harmony.
The Flag hoisting ceremony was held in the school campus on 15th August at 8.20 a.m. with Mrs Annette Hazel Fernandes, Lecturer in English , St Cecily’s P.U. College , Udupi as the chief guest. She rendered a very touching message to the audience present. Especially to the students , she advised to preserve and protect Unity in diversity not only in people but all beings in the environment. The need of the hour, she said , is to build bridges to unite Indians and to break the barriers which cause any divide. The Headmistress , Sr Preethi Crasta welcomed the gathering. A beautiful patriotic song and dance spread a sense of pride and joy of the celebration.
The Scouts and Guides also participated March Past in the District level celebrations held at Mahatma Gandhi stadium, Ajjarkad. The Guides troupe bagged 2nd place in the same.
